little foxes sour cream doughnuts

4 cup sifted flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg, ground
3 large eggs
1 cup sour cream
3 tbsp shortening, melted
7/8 cup sugar
3 lb deep frying fat


in medium bowl sift all dry ingredients 3 times in large bowl beat eggs well. add sugar and beat again. in a seperate bowl add melted shortening to sour cream. then add alternately with dry ingredients to egg mixture. beat until batter is smooth. chill thoroughly. roll dough 1/3 in. thick on slightly floured board. cut with a floured 2.5 inch doughnut cutter allow rounds to stand 15 min. heat frying fat to 375F place doughnut rounds into grease and fry for about 3min. each side. place on wire rack to dry sprinkle with favorite ingredients, (frosting, powdered sugar, sprinkles, etc.)
